There are different ways to respond to a chronic pain or sensation when it comes up.
For some people, Dr Sarno's advice works best: “Tell the pain that you won't take it anymore”. In other words, ask it to leave.
Over the years, I have tried many different ways to responding, from getting angry at it (“Get out!”) to fully allowing it (“Okay, come on in, you can be here however long you want”)
I've found the second one – fully allowing it – more helpful. The more I allowed the pain to just be there and do what it wanted, and the more I was able to relax about it and just watch it, the less it showed up. Over time, of course! In the world of TMS, progress doesn’t usually happen instantly.
Different ways of responding work for different people.
Today's podcast is about responding when pain gets intense. I'm also sharing some of the mistakes that I made on this journey myself.
