When I was in my 20s, I massively damaged my hormones and slowed down my metabolism. I did it by eating very little and doing insane amounts of cardio (picture on the left).
Then I let things swing in the opposite direction and started eating way too much, which caused me to gain a lot of weight. I became very uncomfortable in my body (picture in the middle).
Finally, after increasing my metabolism by changing my diet and starting proper strength training, and through that finding true balance, I've maintained a healthy, fit body composition for years (picture on the right).
