December is almost here! For those who celebrate Thanksgiving, the holiday season started already in November, and Christmas is only about three weeks away.
Holidays usually come with a lot of good food and tend to also mean less working out.
But let's change the latter this year (we still want to eat food, right?) and keep working out also now, probably the busiest time of the year.
To help you stay on track with working out, I've put together a short Holiday Travel Workout Guide that includes five bodyweight workouts that you can do anywhere and any time, which is especially important during the holidays.
Don't Take a Break Just Because It's December
So many of us “take a little break” for the holiday season… and a few days end up some weeks, then a whole month.
But there's really no reason or explanation to that. Why should we workout less than usually this time of the year than they are usually? I get it that we might be busier than normally, and we may be traveling. But keeping constant workout schedule seriously isn't that hard, if we plan it out and make it a priority.
Bodyweight Workouts for Traveling
I will be traveling during the holidays, so I'm not going to have access to my weights. All I probably have with me on my trip is going to be my jump rope. I'll be missing my kettlebells for sure, but that's okay, because I know I can always do a great workout with just bodyweight too.
What comes to hotel gyms, then I usually never rely on them. Some hotels have nice gyms and I use them, but honestly, I don't stress about if my hotel has one or not. I'm not paying more money for a hotel just because it has a gym, because it isn't necessary to me.
But working out is, so I find other ways to do it. I always walk a ton and always workout (I still have my rest days too).
This Christmas, we'll be traveling again and I know there will be a lot of outdoor workouts happening at nearby parks or at the beach. But also if you are somewhere where it's snowing and the last thing you want to do is to go out, you can still workout inside.
Holiday Travel Workout Guide
Whether it's rain or shine outside, I'm sure I'm going to do workout, and use my Holiday Travel Workout Guide for it. Here's a bit more about this guide:
The workouts in this guide
- Are all done with just bodyweight
- Are totally equipment free
- Take you about 15-20 minutes (each) to complete
- Can be done indoors or outside
- Work the whole body
- Work your strength + cardio
- Save you a lot of money and time that you can now spend with your loved ones, and to enjoy the holidays with them!
Not Only Squats, Push Ups and Sit Ups
If you're wondering if that's another super basic bodyweight course where you'll be doing simple bodyweight squats and push ups that you may already be bored with, then this course is a bit different.
There's nothing wrong with squats, push ups and sit ups, they're all great exercises! And they're the fundamentals that we should all do on a regular basis. But in these workouts, you won't be doing the regular sets and reps of 3×10 squats, push ups and sit ups. There are more fun combinations and variations of them (you can always make push ups and leg exercises more interesting).
But none of the workouts are too complicated, and there are video demonstrations for all of them, so you won't be overwhelmed.
Change the Pace and Intensity
It's up to you how intense you make those workouts for yourself, and how long it takes for you to complete them.
There are five exercises in each workout. I recommend that you workout 45 seconds on one exercise and take as much rest as you need to catch your breath and get ready for the next one.
The goal isn't to rush through them with a sloppy form, but to do movements properly and with full focus.
I recommend to take enough breaks so you'll have enough time to recover, but at the same time, don't stretch the breaks too long so that the workouts lose their intensity (no checking Instagram or email during the breaks, okay? :).
The goal is to get it done as quickly as you can, while maintaining the good form, and then head back to do all the fun Christmas stuff 🙂
Conclusion
If you're interested in this workout guide, you can find it here. I really hope it helps you during the holidays!
Stay motivated and stay fit, so there's no reason to make new fitness resolutions when January rolls around. You can be one step ahead and workout already in December, and not start the next year with another resolution (“I'll start again in January”…)
If you have any questions about the guide or the workouts, leave me a comment or shoot me an email and I get back to you!
Happy training!
