Can't accept the imperfections of your body?
Trying to achieve the “perfect” body is like trying to find the “perfect” diet and stay on it — it's impossible.
Just like diet trends come and go, what's seen as the “ideal” body type comes and goes too.
The Women's Body Ideal Is Always Changing
Here's what kinds of of bodies have been “trendy” in the last 50+ years (the following is from Greatist blog)
✅ 1950’s – big hips, butts and boobs, small waist
✅ 1960's – sudden switch to super slim type, with small boobs & small hips. By the way, that was the time when a record amount of amphetamine was used for weight loss! 😲
The next several decades the trend stayed generally pretty slim, but in
✅ 2000's – the athletic look with hard abs & tan became the next trend
✅ 2010 – welcome back big booties – and all the butt selfies on Instagram and the rest of the social media!
It's Impossible To Be Perfect and Have the Ideal Body
We can never fit those “ideals” yet we keep trying… So many of us spend hours daily, on treating their bodies like crap, putting them through super hard workouts, starving them, trying to change their shapes and sizes.
But it's impossible to be perfect and a lot of times, pursuing this perfectionism starts causing us health issues.
I personally would have never had the “perfect” body in 1950s and won't have now either because I've got my curves all wrong — no big hips and butt, no small waistline!
I would probably do barely okay in 2000's because my natural body shape is sort of athletic but I'd still need to lose 20 lbs first to get those abs popping… Which I'm not going to experiment with.
Plus, I would need a spray tan…
So I guess my body would never be good in any of these decades! And that's perfectly fine.
Imperfect Is Perfectly Fine
But who cares if you don't fit to whatever perception of a female body is “trendy” right now. Trying to be “perfect” is not worth it. Just be you in your beautiful body, the way you are now. If you've been always asking How am I looking? maybe it's time to ask How am I FEELING? and focus on that!
