Many of you have found my blog and Instagram because you were searching information about hypothalamic amenorrhea which I talk about a lot.
Before that, my blog and Instagram used to be all about fitness and training, mostly HIIT training… But most of you weren't here then.
I loved fitness, but when I realized that I have hypothalamic amenorrhea and that I need to recover from it, I practically stopped posting about fitness, because I didn't do much of it back then. Cutting out intense exercise is one of the best things you can do to recover from hypothalamic amenorrhea.
Lately though, I've been posting more fitness stuff and workouts on my Instagram again, because I am working out regularly. I'm recovered from hypothalamic amenorrhea for 18 months and while my body is still sensitive to exercise, I can do it without issues if I listen to my body and respect my limits.
But the other day, an Instagram follower reached out to me and said that she enjoys my content for the most part, but as someone who is currently going through amenorrhea, she finds my workout photos and videos triggering.
I love that she reached out and told me how my fitness videos are making her feel! I appreciate her honesty so much.
I'm always open to discussion and sharing ideas. That's why I thought I'd tell you why I've recently been posting more workout videos than I did before, and why want to talk about also other things, in addition to hypothalamic amenorrhea.
1) I want to show you that you can be healthy, happy and train the way you like, after you've recovered from hypothalamic amenorrhea.
So many women who are overtrained or going through hypothalamic amenorrhea, are terrified that they won't be able to ever work out again.
That's not true. Here's a good way to get started.
No matter whether you're dealing with amenorrhea, a knee injury or something else… You need to do what's best for your health right this moment. And very likely, right now, it means resting.
However, you will get back to where you want to be. As you may know, I've been through hypothalamic amenorrhea and a back injury, and I'm moving again — and I hope that I can be a positive example to you and give you hope in moments when you're struggling.
2) At one point, you need to put the negative behind you and start being really positive and excited about your life, your body, and all the things you can do.
I've talked a lot about how I used to overtrain my body, weigh myself daily, binge eat, how every step I took or bite of food I ate (or didn't eat) used to be based on how many calories it had or burned.
My mindset back then was very unhealthy. I want to keep sharing the message that these things are dangerous and can be devastating to your health.
But I don't only want to talk about these things either. I don't want you to keep repeating to yourself:
Why did this happen to me?
Why did I ruin my body?
I shouldn't have done this!
Why, why, why….???
Will I ever even recover??
Because if we keep talking about the bad stuff and the mistakes we made, forever, we also stay in this old mindset if not forever then at least for way too long.
I want you to move on and see the light at the end of the tunnel because it is there. Sure, it's a good thing to recognize the mistakes, get to the bottom of WHY you made them, and most importantly, see what you can learn from them. But then, I want you to move on.
I've really been enjoying exercising now as my mindset is totally different from what it was before. I want to show you that working out is not about burning yourself out, but it's about getting stronger and healthier so that it adds value to your life and makes it more positive overall.
3) I want to be absolutely real and authentic person so that one day, when we meet in real life, you feel like you really know me 🙂
Being authentic also means showing you what I actually do every day. I'm not going to hide it: Being active is a huge part of who I am and what I do. My job is to train people, I love moving myself, I read books and blogs about training (among other things). To me, it would be wrong to not show what I really do.
That's why I'm also showing you some of the workouts I'm doing and classes that I'm teaching. Because that's me, that's what I do, and I do believe that in some way, fitness is always going to be part of my life.
Conclusion
I really appreciate your thoughts and comments, and I appreciate you reading this blog and following me on Instagram.
If my posts are ever triggering to you, there will be no hard feelings if you choose to unfollow me. I've said it many times — if someone makes you feel uncomfortable, unfollow them. Instead, follow those who make you feel good!
But before you do that, see if there's something to learn from this post that triggered you, and always try to shift your focus to positive as much as possible.
What do you think?
I'd like to hear your thoughts!

Hi Kersten,
Thank you for sharing your journey and for delivering great content (I have seen some of your youtube videos as well ;)) Keep doing it, we do really appreciate it!
However I was wondering, due to it has been a while that you recovered from amenorrhea, have you lost your extra weight in the meantime?
