Food & workout obsession, which usually also means under eating, doesn't come without price. It's expensive in many ways. Here's what our “perfect eating” and “perfect training” actually cost us, when taken too far…
Food Obsession & Over Exercise Cost #1: Time
The time we spend planning and worrying about food, tracking, measuring food, then still thinking if we could have eaten better (=less) takes away HOURS every day.
I once had a client who stopped doing all that and found that she has 40 extra minutes a day. Over the week, that adds up to 4.5 hours, and over the month, about 20 hours!
I asked her what she can do with this time and she said that she would love to go on more hikes with her daughter. What time is better spent — weighing our food or hanging out with someone we love?
Food Obsession & Over Exercise Cost #2: Health
Trying to eat super healthy may end up in the opposite way because we end up under eating. That means: problems with adrenals & thyroid which often manifest as chronic fatigue, unstable mood, loss of hair, bad skin, loss of period, no sex drive. Not fun.
Food Obsession & Over Exercise Cost #3: Relationships
If we find ourselves constantly fighting with our partner because we're so damn hungry yet still not eating, or we can't go out to eat because no place is ever perfect, or we run to the gym first thing on a Sunday morning instead of staying in bed for longer 😉
Many of my clients have signed up for another coaching period with me after the first one is over partly because their husbands said they're a totally different person now and also they wanted them to continue.
Food Obsession & Over Exercise Cost #4: Money
We can spend a ton on special foods, books and coaches. Not all coaches are bad, of course. But having heard of coaches who put clients on 1200 cal diets and 2 hour workouts — please spend that money on something else.
Food Obsession & Over Exercise Cost #5: Social Life
Ever wondered why we're not invited anymore anywhere? Maybe because we never go because everyone knows that we can't “mess up” our diet. I know of a girl who found out on social media that her friends were going out on a Friday night and started feeling a major FOMO – why am I not invited? Because they didn't want to ruin her workout plans…
