5 Superfoods That Are Supposed To Bring Your Period Back
Superfood #1: Maca powder
Maca is a root that is available in a powdered form. When you browse Google, you may see that there are many sites that tell you that this will be the magic food for Hypothalamic Amenorrhea.
It isn't if the calories aren't on point.
I tried maca smoothies and they didn't help me to recover from Hypothalamic Amenorrhea. And how could they, if the more important stuff, like overall calories, weren't there?

Superfood #2: Kale
Kale is the food that all health conscious people seem to eat a lot of. However, there's nothing special in it that leafy green that would help with Hypothalamic Amenorrhea. Eating kale doesn't bring anyone's periods back. In fact, kale is actually quite hard to digest for humans!
Superfood #3: Flax Seeds
Flax seeds can regulate our estrogen levels — if we have too little estrogen, they can help to bring the levels up, and if we have too much, they can bring the levels down to more favorable level. But that doesn't mean that flax alone can do the job that only we can do — rest a ton and eat a lot of calories.
Superfoods #4 & 5: Beef & Salmon
I agree, these are both great foods and I eat them frequently also after recovery. But again, there's nothing super magical about these foods! We can eat a nice piece of salmon every day for lunch and a piece of beef for dinner, but if that's not enough calories, Hypothalamic Amenorrhea is not going to get healed just like that.
What Is the Superfood for Hypothalamic Amenorrhea?
CALORIES.
We can eat the supposedly healthiest meal in the world: A salmon steak with kale salad, topped with flax seeds, and have a maca smoothie on the side, but if that doesn't give us enough calories, our periods won't come back.
Once we start eating consistently 2500-3000 and more calories a day (the recommendation to eat at least 2500 comes from dr Nicola Rinaldi), this is where we wake our system up. Slowly but surely, our energy stores will be filled up again and our health will be restored.
