Last weekend started off great, because on Friday, I got my driver's license. Phew!
Seriously, I feel like 16-years old who's getting their first license, but that's what I had to do. Of course, I had the license from Estonia, but to legally drive in California, I had to get the local license. So, I had to take a test, first written and then behind-the-wheel one, and I passed them both successfully.
Honestly, I absolutely hate taking tests. I tend to overthink things and get super nervous, even when I know that I've studied the whole book and have more than 10 years of driving experience. What's there to be afraid of? I don't know. That's just how I am.
So, on Friday, I took the driving test and it went really well. There are a few differences between taking the test here and in Estonia, and I have to say that the whole process was much, much nicer here. What I'm used to is that the examiner's goal is to trick you to do something stupid so that you fail, for example, they could tell you to make a turn or stop where it's not allowed. That of course is meant to confuse the poor student who's already nervous as hell. Why, who does that serve?
Anyways, I'm happy to report that it wasn't like that here at all. The examiner let me know right away that her goal is not to fail me but to make sure that I drive safely. Just how it should be, right?
So after checking the signals, breaks and other important stuff, we headed out to drive around in town. She also had me to back up one block, then we drove some more and that was pretty much it. The whole test took me about 15 minutes. Done.
I was super relieved when it was done. Obviously it's no big deal but it's still good to be done with it. I now have to also take the motorcycle test, but I'm pretty sure I'll be less nervous as I know that the test here is way more reasonable and nobody is trying to intentionally fail you.
Saturday Morning Bootcamp XII: Stack Attack (Lower Body)
Now, let's talk about fitness, because that's what this blog is mostly about…
For Saturday's bootcamp workout, I planned the Stack Attack at workout. I saw that type of workout at first in Julie's blog and though that would be a fun one to do at the bootcamp too. By now I've done already three different variations of it. Here's the last Saturday's Lower Body Stack Attack workout:
Here's how to do it:
- Do 20 reps of the first exercise, here, split squats. Do 10 reps with the right, then 10 reps with the left leg.
- Then, do 20 reps of the second exercise, here, calf raises. Do 10 reps with the right, then 10 reps with the left leg.
- Repeat the first and the second exercise, then move on to the third exercise, side lunges. So, you'll do 10 split squats with right, 10 with left leg; 10 calf raises with right, 10 with left leg, and then 20 side lunges.
- Next round, repeat the exercises 1, 2, and 3 and when you've done all those, move on to exercise 4, squat + tuck jump combo.
- After that, go back to the exercises 1, 2, 3, 4 and then do 5.
- Keep working until you finish the last exercise, 200 meters run.
This is super fun workout and it's going to really, really burn because the number of reps is high! You'll be doing the most reps of the first exercise, because that's what you always start your round with. By the end of the workout, you have done 7×20=140 split squats–not too shabby! You should feel it in your booty for sure. Of course, you can always add weights to make the workout more challenging.
A Sunny Hike on Sunday
Sunday was a rest day for me, but as usual, I still stay active and try to move at least a little bit.
It's been some time since we last went for a hike, so we decided to do that on Sunday. Our first plan was to go to Stinson Beach, which has a really nice hiking trail and a beach with beautiful views to the Pacific Ocean just about an hour away from us.
However, it was super grey and cold when we woke up on Sunday morning, just like it is many mornings here by the San Francisco Bay. So the thought of hiking along the coastline wasn't that appealing. Luckily, much warmer temps are just about 40 minute drive away, so to soak up some real sun, we changed our initial plan and headed to Walnut Creek Shell Ridge Open Space instead.
And boy, was that different. It was hot. Hot. Good thing I brought enough water for he hike.
The Shell Ridge Open Space was a really beautiful and pretty hilly area with almost no shade at all. We climbed up a few hills and enjoyed some awesome views. The drought is real here in California, as you can see…
This park is great for trail running and we saw quite a few runners working out there.
I didn't run, but when there's one random bench on the trail, you use it right? I mean, not for sitting of course…
