YES SEEING YOUR FITNESS LEVEL DECREASE SUCKS… but keep reading!!
Until about 2.5 years ago, I was working out most days of the week. It had been like this for at least 10 years. In December 2016, I started my HA recovery and dropped my workouts down from 6x HIIT/weights/running to… well, yoga and walking.
Weight gain is hard but it's not the hardest thing.
Everybody who goes through that always talks about how hard the weight gain is. Yes it is hard but you will get used to that new looking, a little softer body. I personally have no problem with accepting it anymore. I want to emphasize anymore… because it used to be a struggle for me.
What isn't talked about that much is losing fitness. Recently I’ve started riding my bike more and I notice that the hills that I used to take with no problem couple of years ago, totally get me now. When I go on a hike for 3 hours, it head to be a breeze but now I get really tired. When I demo a few burpees in my class – umm, let’s just say I wouldn't want to do more (and I used to do 100 for time! 😲)
These things are hard to accept.
But then I start thinking: OK, my cardio and conditioning aren't the same that they used to but so isn't my life!! What do I have MORE of now than I had before?
✅ Freedom to choose to eat whatever the heck I want
✅ Not relying on diets to tell me what & how much I “get” to eat
✅ Not forcing myself to work out if it doesn't feel right (I used to do it ALL the time)
✅ Enjoying social situations 💯 more because the food anxiety is gone and I've learned to LIKE people\
✅ I'm so much CALMER than I was before when I was constantly on the go-go-go-gooo train which caused me so much anxiety!
So if you're going through a similar situation, here's my advice: Try to see the bright side of things, and focus on things that are BETTER now.
