Last summer, we were on a vacation and spent a few weeks with my friends and family who hadn't seen me for some time.
And then the question came, from one of my family members: “Are you pregnant or did you just gain weight??”
Yeah, not the nicest question to ask. But sometimes people have no filter 🤷🏼♀️
It’s so interesting that while I know that people notice that I’ve gained weight, hearing someone say that out loud still hurts a bit.
There’s no point in complaining: Oh, how rude he was! Or what a jerk!
That doesn’t help.
What helped me was processing it on my own for a second:
1️⃣ reminding myself of why I needed to gain weight – to recover from hypothalamic amenorrhea and getting my health back on track. I used to be really obsessed with working out before, to the point where I didn't get much else done! I had to learn how to eat to get my health back.
2️⃣ remembering that I actually feel good in my healthy body, and
3️⃣ knowing that my body is only my business and no one else's.
What if you get asked the same question?
If this happens to you too, I just want to say that I know how that feels. You’re not alone. But keep reminding yourself WHY this change was necessary, and what you have now that you didn't have before – probably much calmer mindset, food freedom, less stress, monthly period, and much healthier body overall!
