344. Accepting and Expressing Your Sadness Can Help You Heal Chronic Pain

Have you often avoided your sadness but now have chronic pain or other sensations? These sensations are your emotions, including sadness, that are now it's expressing themselves via physical sensations.

Maybe you grew up hearing that “If you don't stop crying right now, I will give you a real reason to cry.”

Maybe you saw your parents' sadness and decided that you have to hide yours so that you don't make theirs worse.

But if you now have chronic pain or other sensations, known as TMS, then this emotional suppression is contributing to these chronic sensations.

In order to heal the physical pain, we have to work with the emotional pain.

It's not an easy thing to do, even if you’ve worked on it for a little while. Just recently I had a moment where I allowed my sadness come out in a breath work class. A few moments later I became so embarrassed of expressing it in front of other people, even though it was in a very healthy, open and understanding environment.

But after that moment of second guessing my vulnerability, I actually switched my perspective. I realized that opening up to my sadness and even sharing it is a massive WIN 🏆 1.5 years ago I would have held it all in.

Now, after working on emotional awareness and expression for about 1.5 years, I have less pain than I've ever had in my almost 7 years long TMS journey. So there has to be something to this emotional stuff, wouldn't you agree?

Check out today’s episode to learn more about the emotion of sadness, why and how to express it, and even something that’s GOOD about sadness!
