Happy Monday!
I hope your week is off to a good start. Mine starts, per usual, teaching a very early morning bootcamp class. My alarm goes off at 4.30, which gives me enough time to be ready to teach at 5.30. I have to wake up even earlier than I used to as we moved last week and our new home is further away from where I teach.
Speaking of bootcamps, here's the one that we did on Saturday morning. I called it Kettlebells and Cardio, and it was a nice mix of strength and conditioning work.
Our small group started with some stair runs. We have a set of stairs at the local park, with about 50 steps. Here's what we did:
Then, we jogged back to our workout place and did the following workout with kettlebells and bodyweight:
You'll be doing just one round if each exercise. The workout will take you 20-25 minutes.
If you're wondering what the Bosu Burpees are, they are almost like regular burpees, but just with added weight–in the form of Bosu ball.
Here's how to do Bosu Burpees:
The the most remarkable thing that happened during the weekend was that we moved to our new place.
The first few days have been really nice here. I grew up with tons of small lakes around, so I've always liked to be close to the water, which is finally happening again. It's nice to live close to the bay, take a walk and of course, explore more places to workout outdoors!
I've already walked around quite a bit and found three parks where to take my kettlebells or sandbag and of course, practice my handstands and also train my clients. On Sunday morning, I did a bunch of burpees, lunges, push ups and sprints right on the Bay Trail, and it was awesome.
Some time ago, I posted about getting a new vehicle… but I cannot actually use it yet, as I don't have a proper license for driving it. I may or may not have received a ticket for not having it… Yes, I know, I shouldn't have done this, but I honestly had no idea that my foreign license is as good as nothing here. Not accepted at any circumstances.
So, to be able to ride my moped that I was super exited about, I have to take the local written and driving test. Because there are several traffic rules and regulations that are different from the ones in Europe, and because I don't want to fail in the test, I'm really putting in some effort and study for it.
I feel like 18 again studying for the driving test 🙂
We're also in the middle of the week 3 of the 12 Minute Athlete Get Bendy Flexibility Challenge, so I multitask and study and stretch at the same time, like this…
I hope to get it done and pass my exam soon. Getting up and taking a 30-minute bike ride to work at 5am is not the safest thing to do, but is my only option until I become officially licensed driver here in California.
On Saturday, we also watched a movie about Tony Robbins, life and business coach and self development specialist. The movie was called “I am Not Your Guru”.
If you've heard of Tony Robbins, you probably also know what his seminars “Date With Destiny” are about.
Long story as short as I can: People with all kinds of life problems, self doubts, insecurities, fears, people who are looking for some solutions in their life, come to Robbin's seminars to find solutions to those problems, to find themselves.
Tony Robbins' talks and speeches are way beyond just positive, “life-is-good” stories. He makes people face their fears and open up to talk about their problems in front of thousands of other people, helps them find solutions and make them believe in themselves again. Sometimes, in a very painful way, but those ways are always working.
It was a really inspiring movie. Robbins is right: Even though he is know as a life guru, he is not your guru. You are your own guru and you CAN make your life better, no matter how hard you've hit the rock bottom.
I highly recommend seeing this one–you feel very empowered after that, I promise.
There it was, my weekend in a nutshell. Moving, working, working out, studying and relaxing with a good movie. I'm most excited about the moving though!
