Here's how my “healthy” eating habits ruined what could have been one of the best vacations in my life…

I hope you read this and realize that food is not everything, and we shouldn't give it as much power as we tend to!
This story is going to be super embarrassing but I'm going to share it anyway, in case it resonates with you… But no judging, okay?
Okay.
Here we go…
It was 2011 and we were traveling in Cyprus. I had done my morning run at 40C heat (of course), spent the day exploring the ruins of Limassol, and we were heading out to dinner.
You probably know that I love my wine. I've never really restricted that, lol! Especially if I had burned “enough” calories during the day. But when it came to food… things were different.
That dinner ended up being really miserable.
We got to the restaurant and ordered our foods. When my order, some kind of seafood dish which I *thought* was the lowest calorie option on the menu (this is how I always had ordered my food) arrived, I was about to lose my mind.
What arrived was a plate full of fried octopus and other seafood, with a side of fries…
I was so mad because this food was going to make me FAT by tomorrow!!
I got super passive-aggressive when my friends asked if I wanted to order something else. I said that I'm fine, whatever, it's okay, and other lies. At the same time, I was quiet and angry the rest of the dinner. I clearly wasn't fine.
I barely touched any of my food and went to my hotel room to eat a few dry and gross Kelloggs 100-calorie granola bars while others stayed out playing pool and having a few drinks after dinner.
This sucked big time.
I sacrificed what could have been a fun night out, to my “healthy” habits which weren't even healthy! I was in Cyprus, with a bunch of nice people, we had spent a great day and could have spent a great evening too, if my food obsession would't have gotten on the way.
Here's how I'd handle the situation today:
I hope you will never have memories like this. They suck.
I don't want you to ever eat granola bars alone in a hotel room, missing out on life when you could be out there living it.
In my 6-week beta testing program, Body & Mind Liberation Project, we're learning to identify our food fears and rules, get rid of them, eat in a way that supports our bodies and our lives, and follow our bodies' needs instead of caring what someone else is doing, or what the next diet says.
Because we're worth SO much better life.
