One of the gyms had a free workshop for moms. The topic of the workshop was how to lose that “last 5-10 lbs”, get rid of that annoying stomach fat and get ready for summer.
This got me thinking: Is that really what we want to give our mom's for Mother's Day? Do we want to tell them that their belly fat is annoying and here's a nice fitness package that helps them to get rid of it?
This special offer was probably well intended but why do we assume that moms and women in general always want to lose weight? And doesn't it message us that there's something wrong with us and we need to be somehow “fixed”?
I'm not a mom but if I was, I would not love it if on Mother's Day I would be reminded of my extra weight and belly fat. Here's what I would like: some flowers, some cake, a clean kitchen, maybe a manicure. But fat loss seminar? No, thanks.
